Legend has it that because of the many languages spoken among settlers and traders, native Americans called this part of the Pease River "The River of Many Tongues." S.M. Swenson was one of the leading Texas ranchers of the late 1800s. He bought the ranch from the railroads and operated it as the famous Tongue River division of the Swenson Ranch. The modern day owner, Millard Morris, continues the traditions of Big Ranch Country at his ranch with the passion of a true historian of all things western. This 89,000 acre spread supports a large commercial cow-calf herd and has become well-respected in the ranching community for its high-performing mare band and their offspring. The horse breeding program's achievements are highlighted by earning the title 2000 World Champion Ranch Horse, followed in 2001 with the Reserve World Champion Ranch Horse award. Tongue River's authentic ranching lifestyle and commitment to excellence in its horse and cattle breeding programs has attracted top working cowboys and their families to call this ranch their home.
