General Manager Bob Moorhouse shares his uncanny photographic perspective of the ranch's stunning vistas on magazine covers and in his book "Pitchfork Country". Come see for yourself the landscape, the livestock and the cowboy way of life that inspired him. Join ranch staff for a tour, operations brief and observation of the day's work.

The Pitchfork "Big House" combines the formal architecture
and design of the late 1800's with today's colorful and
relaxed West Texas style.

D
Dan Gardner turned to his boyhood friend Eugene Williams for financing of his ranching venture which was incorporated as Pitchfork Land & Cattle Co., using the Pitchfork brand of the original stock Gardner acquired. Descendants of Eugene Williams continue to operate the ranch in the same conservative manner as did the ranch's founders. Today, Pitchfork Land & Cattle Company stretches some 181,000 acres in four Texas counties and an additional 3,300 acres in the Flint Hills of Kansas. The ranch runs commercial cattle which include Angus, Herefords, the Angus X Hereford cross known as the black baldy and South Texas crossbreds. Pitchfork-bred Quarter Horses are highly sought both as dependable ranch horses and consistent competitors in rodeo events and ranch competitions.

Meander through this lovely home and you're sure to feel the warmth of the family members and friends who have gravitated to this place for generations. Grand and impressive, this house is also the comfortable home of the ranch's general manager and his family. When you tour the "Big House" and the Pitchfork Museum you'll appreciate the treasures and traditions of close to 120 years of a very gracious way of life.

Historical documents, interesting gear and stark images of the past tell the Pitchfork story in the ranch's Museum.
