The four sons of J.C. (Togo) Moorhouse, Tom, John, Bob and Ed, run the cow-calf operation their father started in partnership with his brother over 70 years ago. The ranching company runs cattle on 96,000 acres in six West Texas counties. They also run yearlings on wheat pasture and raise their own saddle horses. It's been said that the Moorhouse's do things "the old way," such as using horses every day, taking a chuck wagon out when working cattle, driving the remuda of fresh horses rather than hauling them in trailers and dragging calves to the fire for branding. Tom Moorhouse explains that while the ranch does stay in step with markets and progressive methods, theirs is the way of low overhead operators...the ones who stay in business through every down cycle. This ranch marches toward the future by staying in touch with what has always worked in the past. What's called "the old way" will always be the Moorhouse way.

The legacy of the open range,
branded with images of the past.

There's absolutely nothing "touristy" about a visit to Moorhouse Ranch, and that's what makes an experience here so worthwhile. You can observe the cowboys as they work cattle together or while they're breaking and training the horses they'll soon depend on as partners. There's
plenty of work being done here everyday, and it's all performed in a simple, functional, effective manner that gets results. There's also plenty of country to explore for experienced riders with their own horses. Trail riders are welcome on Moorhouse Ranch following the completion of a written horsemanship assessment prior to booking.

Gritty and honest.
Charming and faithful.

It's doing the simplest things that seem
to matter most here. Lunch at the chuck
wagon with the cowboys, a turn of the
century style sleep over in a teepee under
the stars. Your friends, family or business
guests will never forget the Moorhouse way!

Honoring
traditions.
Surviving
change.

The ranching industry has been romanticized in
books and on film and in the imaginations of millions of
"cowboys" the world over.  But this is really tough work that
only sometimes pays off with a ride into the sunset. Preserving the
cowboy way of life is a tough job that somebody has to do.
And the Moorhouse's do it very well.

Open Up...to the Wide Open Spaces.
